Road cycling clothing must be aerodynamic, lightweight and maximally breathable. At speeds above 30 km/h, every wrinkle in the fabric creates drag. This is why Löffler road jerseys and bib shorts fit close to the body (tight fit) without restricting freedom of movement.
Jerseys: The Race Elastic and Race Air fabrics are knitted exclusively at Löffler’s facility in Austria. They offer excellent lateral stretch with stable longitudinal elasticity – meaning a perfect fit without deformation. The Airstream knit on sleeves and back maximises ventilation at peak performance.
Shorts: The hotBOND® bib shorts replace conventional seams with ultrasonically welded flat bonds. No chafing, no pressure points – even after hours in the saddle. The SQlab-XP/6 Pro seat pad (6 mm, 360 kg/m³ density) is developed specifically for the forward-leaning road position.
Jackets: The Rain Chaser WPM Pocket is waterproof and windproof (20,000 mm water column), highly breathable and packs into its own rear pocket. Outer material made from recycled polyester.
Gravel clothing must be functional, durable and modular. On gravel and unpaved roads, pace, surface and weather change constantly. The SKYS Gravel Collection (SKYS = between Sky and Sand) was co-developed and tested with the Velo-Kartell cycling community.
What makes SKYS different: Zip-off sleeves for quick adaptation, 5-part rear pockets for nutrition and tools, windshell material with matte finish, CF Extreme seat pad for long distances on varied terrain. All SKYS jerseys are knitted from the new Race Elastic Light – a superfine single-knit that is lighter than the standard Race Elastic but offers the same stretch.
MTB clothing needs more freedom of movement and more robust materials than road cycling wear. Löffler offers a more relaxed cut (mid fit) with reinforced materials at key stress points.
Shorts: The MTB shorts in Comfort Stretch Light are water-repellent (PFC-free), quick-drying and offer full freedom of movement through the 2-way stretch fabric. For all mountain, extra-long shorts with more robust materials are available.
Cycling liner shorts: Under MTB shorts, riders wear liner shorts with a seat pad. Löffler offers five models from the basic version (Comfort Basic, 6 mm) to the hotBOND®-SQL with SQlab pad for forward-leaning positions on gravel and mountain bikes.
For touring riders, comfort takes priority over aerodynamics. The comfort fit offers a relaxed, straight cut with little tapering and comfortable freedom of movement. For e-biking in particular: the electric motor means a lower average heart rate, so the body produces less heat – dress slightly warmer than for traditional cycling.
Löffler knits all jersey fabrics exclusively at its own facility in Ried im Innkreis. Around 50 different fabric qualities are developed, tested and field-proven each year. Key jersey materials:
All jerseys come in three fits: tight fit (close-fitting, race-ergonomic), slim fit (athletic, body-shaping) and mid fit (slightly more relaxed but still figure-hugging, with extended front for more room).
The cycling short is the most important piece of clothing on the bike – it has the most contact between rider and machine. Löffler offers two short materials:
Five seat pads are available – from Comfort Basic (6 mm, for short rides) to Comfort Gel Air (16 mm, with gel pads at the sit bones) to SQlab-XP/6 Pro (6 mm, 360 kg/m³ density, for athletic forward-leaning positions).
The base layer sits directly on the skin – and is the most important layer in the layering system. Its job: transport sweat away from the skin as fast as possible to prevent the body from cooling down.
With transtex®, Löffler offers a fibre technology developed and produced in-house in Austria that moves sweat mechanically away from the skin – without any chemical treatment. For different temperatures and intensities, several variants are available: transtex® light for summer and high intensity, transtex® warm for cold days, and transtex® Merino as a hybrid with merino wool for variable conditions.
Löffler offers three jacket systems for different conditions:
Löffler is not just a brand but also a manufacturer with unique vertical integration. Around 70% of all fabrics come from the in-house knitting facility in Ried im Innkreis. All cycling jerseys are 100% made in Ried – from yarn to finished product. This means every fibre, every knitting construction and every finish is developed and controlled in-house.
hotBOND® replaces conventional seams with ultrasonically welded flat bonds. The result: no pressure points, no chafing, higher tear resistance than sewn seams. Particularly relevant for cycling shorts under hours of load.
transtex® is based on polypropylene – the lightest textile fibre. Polypropylene absorbs virtually 0% moisture and moves sweat mechanically away from the skin. Odour molecules barely adhere to the fibre, without any chemical treatment or silver-ion finishing. transtex® has been developed and produced at Löffler in Austria since 1976.
Airblocc softshells are windproof at the front and breathable at the back. This zonal construction is designed specifically for cycling: headwind hits almost exclusively from the front. At the back, heat and moisture can escape. Wind protection without heat build-up.
Löffler won the German Sustainability Award 2025 (Sports Products category). 98.4% of all products sold are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified. Both production sites (Ried im Innkreis and Tryavna, Bulgaria) hold the OEKO-TEX® STeP certificate for sustainable textile production. All fabrics from the in-house knitting facility are PFAS-free. Every in-house produced item is tagged with a QR code for full supply chain traceability.
Three items are enough to start: cycling shorts with a seat pad (or liner shorts under regular clothing), a cycling jersey and a transtex® base layer as the first layer. For changeable weather, add a lightweight wind vest that fits in a jersey pocket.
Road cycling clothing is optimised for aerodynamics: close fit, smooth surfaces, minimal drag. Gravel clothing is more modular and robust: more pockets for nutrition, zip-off sleeves for quick adaptation, more durable materials for gravel and terrain. The SKYS Gravel Collection by Löffler combines performance with versatility.
In winter, the layering principle applies: transtex® base layer (wicks sweat) + thermal cycling jersey (insulates) + Airblocc softshell jacket (wind protection). For legs: Airblocc thermal tights with windproof front panel. Find detailed temperature recommendations in the layering guide.
Löffler produces in Austria and Europe – not in the Far East. 70% of fabrics come from the in-house knitting facility; technologies like hotBOND® and transtex® are proprietary. Add OEKO-TEX® certification, PFAS-free production, transparent supply chains and a professional repair service. These factors are reflected in the price but deliver significantly higher quality, durability and sustainability.
